What is a Temazcal?
For those new to Temazcal ceremonies, it is an old tradition of connecting to yourself and to Mother Earth through the basic elements of fire, water, earth, and air, and the vibrations offered through chants, and songs.
Historically, Temazcal were used for improving health, healing aliments, and purifying the body.
A Temazcal is essentially a sweat lodge in the shape of a circular dome (think igloo-shaped) constructed from bamboos, hemp rope, and covered with wool blankets and canvas.
The structure represents a woman’s womb, since after the ceremony, you are thought to be "reborn".
There is a small entrance that is covered with a cloth, which participants use to enter the dome.
Inside the dome, there is a pit in the center in which volcanic stones are placed.
Antonio Karam, who will be our temazcalero, will pour water over the heated volcanic stones to produce steam inside the confined area.

ABOUT US:
Antonio Karam is Mexican born, he has been in New Zealand for over a decade. Musician, Music teacher, and follower of Ancestral traditions. He started to engage in Temazcal and Anahuac traditions in Cholula, Puebla; when he was a young adult. Antonio has been involved in preserving this part of the Ancient Anahuac tradition by running Temazcales for 20 years now. He strongly believes that ancestral medicine is the key to finding a way to treat many physical and spiritual obstacles in our life.
Giulia Mattioli is passionate about contributing to people's wellbeing by sharing her love for Cacao, and various holistic practices such as Yoga, Meditation, Shamanism, & Sound.
Her spiritual journey started after moving from Italy to Scotland, where she started to get closer to yoga and its principles.
To develop a deeper understanding of the yoga philosophy, she gained a 200hrs YTT in the South of India, Kerala.
This self-love journey took her to discover Bali and New Zealand, where she started teaching Yoga in some retreat centers in the North and South Islands.
This land supported her to deepen her connection with Nature and to discover Cacao in its full potential.
The Universe worked its power and through a friend, Giulia found her way to The Cacao Ambassador.
After completing her 6 weeks Emissary program, she is now crafting 100% Cacao paste which she uses for her ceremony.

As challenging as it was, the Temazcal was so amazing!!!! Antonio's expertise, his strong energy and guidance provided a feeling of safety and reassurance. Clearly I wasn't the only one feeling supported, and comfortable stepping into this new experience outside my 'comfort zone' without knowing how uncomfortable it was going to get.
Also the support that came through from our beautiful mother earth, such a deep connection with Papatuanuku like I had never felt before. This was extremely grounding while also providing a sense of lightness, elation, peace and contentedness.
