Meet the team:

Laura Rose

I am your host and the founder of Doubtless Bay Retreat. I am also a Naturopath, Nutritionist and Medical Herbalist.

I founded Doubtless Bay Retreat in 2020, from my home in Coopers Beach, in the Far North of New Zealand. Fuelled by my burning desire to work with large groups of people, so that my time could impact more lives. My intension for creating transformational retreats was, and still is, to increase wellbeing, to improve the quality of life of the attendees and to inspire a deeper connection to themselves, the people in their lives, and the natural world around them. I feel truly inspired and honoured to assist others in achieving optimal health and to reach their full life potential. I have been on my own transformational journey in recent years. On this retreat I will share my personal experience of stepping into my power and life purpose.

I design and prepare the menu for each retreat around nutrient dense seasonal ingredients, and I aim to showcase locally sourced foods wherever I can. I also forage for herbs and edible seaweeds when possible. I loves to share my passion and knowledge of all things food with the retreat participants. Connecting with each retreat participant in the kitchen during Seva, is my very favourite part of each retreat. I believe the connections made over food, whether growing, preparing, cooking or eating, is where the foundation of optimal health and community begins.

Giulia Mattioli

Ciao, I am Giulia-Rawhiti Selflove.

I'm passionate about contributing to people's wellbeing by sharing my love for Cacao, and various holistic practices such as Yoga, Meditation, Shamanism, Sound, and Conscious Communication.

My spiritual journey started after moving from Italy to Scotland, where I started to get closer to yoga and its principles.

After taking part in a Shamanic retreat, I decided to follow my intuition and walk the “Camino de Santiago, in Spain; once finishing it I decided to start traveling the world.

To develop a deeper understanding of the yoga philosophy, I gained a 200hrs YTT in the South of India, Kerala. This amazing experience taught me to live in harmony with myself, and my surroundings, and how important it is to share this knowledge with everyone.

This self-love journey took me to discover Bali where I got my Reiki Level 1 & 2 and New Zealand, where I started teaching Yoga in some retreat centers in the North and South Islands.

This land supported me to deepen my connection with Nature and to discover Cacao in its full potential.

From a young age I have always had a love affair with Cacao, but never fully understood why, as everyone around me just saw it as chocolate. The Universe worked its power and through Laura & Michelle, I found my way to The Cacao Ambassador.

Magic truly happened.

I love weaving all those practices together to assist people’s personal development, and thank you to my training in NVC (Conscious Communication) I found a way to reach people’s heart that feels inspiring and authentic

Jessica White

I’m Jess – ever evolving human, partner, mother, friend, life lover, soul sister and I live in the sub-tropical lushness of the Far North of New Zealand. I’m on a mission to live a consciousness of nonviolence, a life of integrity and authenticity and to dance with all it’s untamed beauty! I found something that I believe can change the world as we know it. And it’s my deep joy to share it with you. It’s powerful. It’s peaceful.

Conscious Communication, a practice based on Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is an instrument of reflection and a dependable space for self-growth, a language of life and a lifestyle of compassion, inner peace, authenticity and emotional wellbeing. It’s a way of seeing and understanding human behaviour, which generates more compassion within us, and it’s also a modality, when practiced with intention and care, that can heal past trauma and prevent the build up of new. This happens because everything we experience, including our own thoughts and emotions, are transmuted back to the heart, our centre of Universal Love.

Michelle Robinson

I embarked on my Iyengar Yoga Journey in the late 90’s coming from a group fitness and gym background; I very quickly realised the value in practising this amazing form of yoga with the precision and intelligent use of props creating a safe platform for everyone. Iyengar Yoga creates a balance of strength flexibility with movement and stillness. I love the scientific element mixed with the creative way poses are taught with basic, clear and precise principles aligning a balanced mind and body. I embarked on a 3 year training program in late 2002 and have never looked back, my body, mind and soul finds fulfilment, and forever on this fantastic journey learning, creating, exploring the wonders that BKS Iyengar introduced to our western world. I invite you to give it a go and see where it takes you with passion, honesty, open heart and love

Antonio Karam

Mexican born, I have been in New Zealand for over a decade. Musician, Music teacher, and follower of Ancestral traditions. I started to engage in Temazcal and Anahuac traditions in Cholula, Puebla; when I was a young adult. I have been involved in preserving this part of the Ancient Anahuac tradition by running Temazcales for 20 years now. I strongly believe that ancestral medicine is the key to finding a way to treat many physical and spiritual obstacles in our life.

What is a Sweat Lodge

'Temazcal' translates as the "house of heat." It is a millenarian tradition (widely practised along the American continent by many ancestral cultures) that provides a steam bath for the mind, body and soul - a holistic type of therapy for both the physical and the spiritual. A Temazcal is a representation of the womb of mother earth. The people participating in this ceremony enter it as a representation of entering the womb of mother earth and therefore has the shape of a dome with small dimensions throughout representing the mother’s womb. A fire ceremony is created outside of the Temazcal and, once inside, hot volcanic rocks are placed in the centre. Water is then poured over the rocks to produce steam. Temazcal, like other forms of steam rooms, has many physical benefits including flushing out toxins and cleansing the mind, body and soul.

I love being outdoors and spend a lot of my free time in nature, especially in and around rivers and sea.

Felix Hirling

Kia ora my name is Felix,

My journey with NVC (Non-Violent Communication) started 2 years ago when I took a foundation workshop with Wayne and Deb from the Meditating Giraffe. That initial workshop left me feeling empowered and in awe of the transformative power of this style of communicating. Through regular practice, further workshops and being invited to participate in the Empathy Angels movement I have fallen in love with this way of relating to self and others. NVC has supported me to build incredibly trusting and authentic relationships.

NVC has been a powerful tool in helping me grow my self-awareness, and understanding the roots of the mental blocks I hold. I am now competent in transforming judgments I hold of myself and others into understanding and a desire to support.

I get such a deep sense of fulfilment when connecting people with what is really alive in them and the authentic shifts that I get to witness when holding that space.

I am really looking forward to getting to know all of you during our time on this retreat and supporting you by holding space when you need it. It is always an honour when someone opens up a small window into their world.

Other things that make me feel alive are surfing, outdoor adventures, music and learning about indigenous ways of relating to our environment.

“This weekend was such a journey...a journey of love, acceptance and belonging. I felt united with Pachamama, it was like I was melting into the earth, feeling its embrace, blending in and completely surrendering in the process, I wasn't me any longer as I was a part of something much bigger and beautiful. Such a powerful journey!”

As challenging as it was, the Temazcal was so amazing!!!!  Antonio's expertise, his strong energy and guidance provided a feeling of safety and reassurance. Clearly I wasn't the only one feeling supported, and comfortable stepping into this new experience outside my 'comfort zone' without knowing how uncomfortable it was going to get.
Also the support that came through from our beautiful mother earth, such a deep connection with Papatuanuku like I had never felt before.  This was extremely grounding while also providing a sense of lightness, elation, peace and contentedness.
